We’re changing our name!

Canadians for Ethical Treatment of Food Animals (CETFA) was founded in 1990 to expose the massive abuse of animals raised for food under intensive factory farming conditions.

The original directors visited barns and slaughterhouses, did ride-alongs and spoke with animal transporters. They were deeply disturbed by what they saw, and educating the public about the plight of animals raised for food, or so-called “food animals”, became very important as few people then seemed aware of the cruelty inflicted on farmed animals.

Today, we strive to continue to expose factory farming practices and inform consumers about the appalling suffering hidden from view in the production of food. However, as more and more people are aware of animal issues, and the language is evolving in response, the connotation of the expression “food animals” no longer reflects our present values and ideals.

As such, the CETFA Board has taken the decision to rename CETFA, Canadians for Ethical Treatment of Farmed Animals.

Please bear with us as we move forward with updating our name on all our documents, our website and our social media sites. We hope you will like the name change as much as we do.
